Quarterly Report - Fall 2017

November 2, 2017

Dear Boone Lake Resident,

Residents voted to lower the lake to 5 feet at the Annual Meeting. The Lake lowering commenced on October 1st for the permitted Drawdown.

As you all can see, the lake was not drawn down to 5 feet as of November 1st due to the large storm we received on Sunday October 29th. The decision was made to keep the gate opened at its current position of that day and wait to see what rainfall we had. The forecast called for between 1-3 inches of rain during the storm event. As you all witnessed, we had a significant amount of rainfall during the storm. The decision was made to hold the rainfall in the lake and slowly disperse it downstream after the storm so that we would not flood all the properties downstream. There was no immediate danger of our dam breaching but the potential for property damage downstream was a real threat so we took the responsible approach. The DEM was aware of the action that was taken. As you have witnessed since the storm, the lake is going down to the 5 foot mark again and we will be at that level by the weekend. The DEM is aware of the delayed drawdown and is in agreement with the new plan for the drawdown. Once 5 feet is reached it will be maintain to that level until March 1st.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. See you on the lake in the Spring..

Best,

Angela Aurelio
Gate Keeper
